Reflexology Aftercare Guidance

I will provide aftercare advice after each treatment. It is important for you to follow the aftercare advice so that the full benefit of the treatment is achieved:

  • Rest and relax after the treatment. This will help the body to heal itself sufficiently.  To help the body and mind relax you could try this 4-7-8 breathing exercise:

  1. Sitting or lying down become aware of your breath.  Follow your breath as you breathe in and breath out for about a minute

  2. Inhale for a count of 4

  3. Hold for a count of 7

  4. Exhale slowly for a count of 8

  5. Repeat 4 times

  • Drink extra water for 24 to 48 hours following the reflexology treatment. This will help speed up the body’s natural cleansing process to flush out toxins from the body. 1 to 2 litres per day is recommended.

  • Avoid coffee, tea, and stimulant drink for 24 hours as they contain caffeine.

  • Avoid Alcohol and smoking for about 24 hours as the treatment is a detoxifying one and smoking and drinking will introduce toxins into the body.

  • Avoid heavy meals after treatment as blood is diverted to the digestive system to help with, the digestion of food. The demands of digestion will divert energy away from the healing process. Light meals such as fruit and vegetables are ideal.

  • Take a 20-minute gentle walk if possible

How you may feel after your treatment

Reflexology promotes the body to naturally cleanse itself of unwanted toxins and congestion or imbalances in energy.  Removing these helps your body to heal itself. Everybody heals at a different rate and in their own way.  Usually, most people will feel relaxed, sleep well, relief from symptoms, and feel rested after a treatment. Occasionally people may feel some symptoms up to 24 to 48 hours after treatment.

These symptoms may include:

  • Tiredness

  • Headache

  • Runny nose/increased mucus

  • Nausea

  • Change in sleep pattern

  • Thirsty or Hungry

  • Reduced appetite

  • Increased urine output

  • Change in bowel movement

  • Sweating

  • Feel cold

  • Heightened Emotions

  • These symptoms after a reflexology treatment are normal, and are brief, and indicate the reflexology treatment is working, and the body is healing itself. If you do experience symptoms try to listen to your body and take time for yourself to relax. At your next reflexology treatment, you can let me know how you felt after the treatment.
